Say Something

£10.00

for a Speaking Percussionist (2015)

“Say Something” (2015) re-investigates the rhythmic and melodic qualities of language, shifting from the Vietnamese speech rhythms of “And Now for the News” (1983) to the tonal and stress variations in English. The piece features ambiguous text fragments and loops, with a performer balancing stress, emphasis, and pitch in their delivery alongside a sometimes virtuosic drum accompaniment.

The download consists of an A4 .pdf score and program notes.
Commissioned by and dedicated to Dr. John Lane, Associate Professor of Percussion and Director of Percussion Studies, Sam Houston State University, Texas.
His premiere performance of the work can be seen here
