‘Say Something’ for speaking percussionist

Say Something (2015) explores the concept of meaning, inviting performers to shape and present interpretations of abstract texts, thereby aiding in constructing meaning for the audience. Emphasis and intonation play crucial roles in this process. The sing-song rise and fall of newsreaders, characterized by their exaggerated intonation and pitch, served as a significant inspiration for the writing of Say Something.

Commissioned and premiered by Dr John Lane, Director of Percussion Studies, Sam Houston State University, Texas.
