Tape delay predates digital effects and is achieved using two or more tape recorders set at a distance. The signal is recorded on the first machine and plays back, after a delay, on the second. The length of delay depends on the distance between the machines. Interesting feedback effects can be created if a microphone picks up the playback from the second machine.
