The Winton Fence Development Chronicles 2: The Build
- Sound Box Design was by myself with David Murphy. The drawing was beautifully drafted by David.
- I made a detailed model of the site layout in my studio.
- The landscape design was by Andrew Saniga, Associate Professor in Landscape Architecture, Planning, and Urbanism at the Melbourne School of Design.
- The model was transported to Winton and displayed publicly in the town hall, garnering significant attention and feedback from the local community. Upon viewing the model, Chris Beetson (who later went on to build the post and wires elements of the fence) remarked, “You’re gonna need a fence around that fence.” He was concerned that the design might obstruct a traditional stock route.
After the design approval and model display at the Winton Shire Town Hall, construction commenced. This video features a blend of still photos and footage documenting the build, starting with the site works in 2003. Two years later, David Murphy arrived in Winton to construct his Bush Drum Kit, which has since weathered the years and brought joy to thousands of visitors.
